Welcome! A couple of our favorite tools to use to search for campsites are the state park websites and www.recreation.gov. Also learn how to use Google Earth to "go to" the campgrounds/sites you're interested in so you can get an idea if this is a place you want to see.
I would also suggest getting out and looking at some of the state parks and Corp of Engineer parks within say a 150 mile radius of where you live. If you will tell them at the gate that you're interested in starting camping and want to look around they may let you enter without paying the entrance fee, but if they do it will be less than $10 to do so. Most TX State parks will let you drive around but usually tell you not to stop and get out if you don't pay the fee.
I definately agree that a bathroom and shower are nice but remember that most campgrounds have these facilities & I would guess that most of them are pretty well kept. You might want to choose campsites close to the bathhouses (or not). We started out in a popup with neither of these with two kids and we survived. You just have to decide what you think is best for you!
Look on Craigslist and RV Trader see what's available after you've done some more homework. I know the big RV show in Dallas is this month too and it would give you some ideas of what is availble, but don't get suckered into something you don't need or can afford yet. We've bought all of our RVs "preowned" and so far had pretty good luck but my husband can do repairs (on most things) which helps.
Also read the "Frequently Asked Questions" at the top of this forum section. It also has a lot of good info!
Good Luck!
