internet access with a hot spot

Hi everyone,
We have been full timing since April and in two weeks heading out to the Carolinas. We currently have At&t for our service and paying a ridiculous amount of money for 20g of data. We need that much as I am attending school on line. We're finding that At&t is just too expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a different provider that can supply that much data? Would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks
  • I see college aged people that sit for hours in various Starbucks. They even gather in what appear to be study groups. Perhaps you can cut your data plan and supplement with the freebies. Burger King and many camp grounds offer free WIFI as well.
  • Are you sure you really need 20 gigs of data? I have a Verizon plan for two iPads and two iPhones with 10 gig of shared data. I've never gone over it and I used to teach online college classes while away from home.

I had avoided streaming video because I knew it took a lot of data. We were out camping a few weeks ago and I got addicted to "Hell on Wheels". The first two seasons were on Netflix so I was catching up. I think I watched at least three hours of video on the iPad from Netflix and it was only 2 GB of data. That means I could have streamed 15 hours of video and not gone over my limit for the month.

But back to your question, I think there are still 4g providers out there who offer unlimited data plans. If you're really using that much you may want to try one of them, but I doubt you'll get much cheaper. I switched from AT&T to Verizon recently, not because it was cheaper, but because AT&T had lousy coverage.
