Secure internet access?

Hello!

Do any of you have any recommendations for internet access while you're RV'ing?

We're from Canada and when we're in Canada we use our iPhones as hot spots when we're travelling in Canada. We have good data plans. However, we can't do the same when we're in the U.S. because roaming charges are really steep.

We're looking into getting internet through Uconnect in our Dodge half ton and using that as a hotspot. So far it isn't an option for Canadians, but we are in the process of seeing if we can get the Wifi hotspot feature activated in our truck so we can use that when we're in the U.S. this winter. We're not sure yet if this will be possible, however.

We would like something that is pay-as-you-go, no contract. We have a U.S. address with all utilities and for this winter at least, we'll be using that as home base for the winter and taking the motorhome out for trips from there, so a hot spot that offers some type of pay as you go plan would be ideal. Virgin has this, but I am wondering if the coverage would be satisfactory. Our travels would more likely be in the south west region.

We would prefer not to use public wifi.

Thanks for any thoughts or advice. :)
