It may be an idea to get two different network phones with hotspots. In urban centers Metro PCS offers unlimited tethered data but I believe the network is T-mobile.
Actually in the US Virgin is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sprint (like Boost Mobile). Both only run on Sprint towers, they don't roam. So if Sprint has good coverage in the area you'll get good service with either Virgin or Boost. Otherwise it's a brick.
