CDEVIDAL--I never watch videos, upload photos, don't download ebooks, post no pictures on FB, don't communicate with others on FB. No other devices. Just check emails, move money around accounts, general browsing.
And you don't use updates, you said that. I'd suppose you could use it every day for an hour or so a day on a laptop? Just a back of the envelope guess.
Best way to know for sure is to try it. You can get a used unit off eBay and sign up for their free plan. Watch the fine print, make sure they don't sell you services you don't want (they're reallllllll good about pushing extra services, that's one way they make money) and turn off automatic top-off.
Heads up though: Make sure your device isn't WiMax, or if it is, make sure it isn't WiMax-only. WiMax is going away at the end of the year. 3G is sticking around, so their 250U USB stick will still work, albeit more slowly. And 4G LTE is of course going to stay.
How do you know if a device is WiMax-only? Simply Google the device name and WiMax. Or ask in their forums. They're very helpful.
Another option: Go with the $20 unlimited phone and tether it to your laptop.
By the way if updates became a bandwidth issue for me I'd disable both OS and malware automatic updates and only do that manually when I'm on Wi-Fi. If you hunt around the settings or Google you'll see how to do this.
