It’s Summertime! North to Alaska?

Do you have previous RV experience? If not buying & doing Alaska as a first trip is one big step. Are you mechanically inclined when there are small electrical, plumbing or mechanical (not engines) things are involved. If the answer is no then perhaps the way to do it is to fly to Anchorage, rent a class B or small C & go from there. Should there be a problem you have the support of the company.

I can totally see advantages to a TT or a TC for a trip like that.
Since you don't have a RV, might have more choices.

Sounds like an awesome trip, definitely go for it. I'm in kind of a similar situation and age range where I suddenly have an unexpected amount of free time and am thinking about ways to fill it. I thought about going to see the northern lights, but the idea came too late in the season for this year.

One question that will get asked is do you already have a vehicle that you can use to tow with? If so give us the year make and model and we can possible help with ideas of what you can tow. Ir it's a fairly late model truck there should be a yellow sticker on the drivers door jamb that you will wee when you open the door. What are hte capacities listed on that sticker?

My 84 yo aunt recently drove up in her Crown Victoria that is 20 years old. She lived in Alaska most of her life until moving back to WA state.

Before you start packing (And I am not saying not to go) consider how you will travel, you mention a trailer but said nothing of what you have to tow with, nor what experience you have towing.
If you have a suitable vehicle but no experience, you may want to rent a trailer to test the waters. If you dont have a vehicle for towing already, you may want to consider renting a couple of different types of RV's.
Maybe a small class C or a truck and trailer, or a converted van. There are many ways to skin this critter, you need first to figure out which one fits you.

Dont take this as a negative, it's only a question of direction.

I would recommend getting a hard-sided trailer and not a pop-up for bear protection. I am flying there for my third visit this August and can't agree more that if you need help you'll get it. Saw multiple examples on both trips.

The only way to avoid driving through BC is taking the Alaska state ferry from Bellingham but you won't get on it this season, it will be booked solid. You are bitng off a lot for your first trip, I suggest taking a few shorter shakedown runs to work out any bugs and see if this is something you really want to do. It's a long haul, figure on at least a week just to reach Alaska by road depending where you are coming from and there are long stretches of empty road.

If you are concerned about travelling alone, there are several commercial caravan companies who do the trip. We did a trip with Adventure Caravans and Fantasy Tours offers Alaska tours. You get daily route info, some meals, assistance in case of breakdown, bus tours to key places with admits prepaid and camaraderie and no stress in figuring out what is ahead. Works for some, others hate the schedule rigidity. Not cheap but we loved the low stress trip. Do Alaska - you will love it whether you go it alone or sign up for a tour!

I haven't done that trip specifically, but have vacationed all over those areas a lot in years past. Definitely do it- you will have the time of your life.

Just be aware that Nature up there can seriously damage you + look into any Canadian border/customs restrictions that you will need to follow (eg, you CAN take a firearm into/thru Canada under certain restrictions).

And the fishing in AK......I call it harvesting. Unreal. Hit the salmon runs, fly in to a remote lake, go on a small charter halibut boat....and that's just a start. You cant do it all in 1 season.
