Leveling

I understand that when leveling our MH that the wheels should not come off the ground. I used multiple 2 x 10s and they lasted about 4 trips. I have seen the yellow stackable pads for leveling. It looks like I need 2 10 packs to make the equivalent of 2- 2 x 10s.

My question is how do I tell if I'm raising a wheel too high? I'm sure there is more to it than "if it spins, it's too far off the ground.

Those 10 packs are $25 to $35. So that's $50 to 70.

Looks like I need chocks for 4 wheels given that I may have to chock the rear.

Suggestions welcome. Comments welcome.
  • Right: do not raise the wheels off the ground. Puts unneeded stress on the chassis.

I have two-plus packs of the yellow plastic pads (used to have orange ones that finally cracked). Any more than 3 inches on one side....you might want to change sites.

When I put the pad(s) under the tires, I also put them under the jack pads. For instance, 2 " under the tires, 3" under the jack pads.

    Just me...and what I do.
  • if you are talking about the lego style levelers they may not hold up any better than the wooden blocks, they make solid plastic leveling pads you should look into buying them
  • I had plastic blocks until some cracked and deformed. I then tried pieces of 2x but now I have glued and screwed 3/4 plywood together and they seem to be holding up well.

I made 12x12 1 1/2 thick pads for the fw landing gear and smaller ones for the rear levelers. I also carry a 1 1/2 x 10 in wide x 6 foot long piece if I want to put both tires on one side on wood. I 45° the edges for driving onto.
