Either use non-insulated splices/terminals and a separate piece heat shrink or splices/terminals that have shrinkable insulation.
Done correctly a crimped connection is just as good and some way netter than solder.
If you are running new wire, use "marine", pre-tinned wire. This greatly reduces corrosion.
