Memphis Tn

We stayed at Tom Sawyer two years ago and they didn't open until June 6 due to high water. We got there the 8th, stayed for 4 nights and loved it. Give them a call.

Tom Sawyer campground says on their website that they are closed due to flooding.

BTW - is the Graceland RV Park the same as "the one behind Heartbreak Hotel"?

Highly recommend Tom Sawyer. It's 20 minutes or less to Mud Island, about 30 to Graceland. Campground is very safe from my point of view. In the quiet of "Nothing", the sight and sound of the barge traffic up and down the river is SO RELAXING.

They may have good security there, but take heed the suggestions about not going out at night in that area. Apart from Graceland itself, there isn't much else to do or see within the immediate vicinity.

If you don't have to have full hookups, Hernando Point at Lake Arkabutla, about 25 miles south of there near Hernando, MS is a nice QUIET campground. I did my break in trip there and have been a couple of other times just to go fishing or see the lake. If sewer is a requirement, there are two campgrounds in Horn Lake, MS (10-15 minutes south of Graceland) that are clean, have pools, playgrounds,etc., but are just a bit on the high side price wise.

Tom Sawyer is nice. Watch the barges go by. Take Ant spray they were pretty bad when we stayed there. Not a bad drive to where ever you want to go. Take the trolley by Mud Island and go down town. We had a good time in Memphis. Larry

I think it is funny that the few people who say they stayed there and didn't feel afraid all cite fences, gates and guards, or at least didn't say it wasn't so. That, alone, should tell you something.

I lived west of Memphis but I worked in a bad part of town at the city hospital.

I can tell you do NOT stay near Graceland. You can go there during the day but do not stay in that area after dark!

When I lived there it was the middle 80's and I know it has gotten worse since then as I have been back to visit.

As a former throttle jocky, AKA truck driver, My advice about West Memphis is 1 hour before to 1 hour after dark Get The Heck Out. I know some will take offense but whenever I was within CB range of West Memphis I could listen to people advertising everything from drugs to prostitution. Definetly not the place nice folks would want to get into trouble.
