Memphis Tn

Has anyone ever stayed at Gracelands RV Park in Memphis? As most of you know, Im a woman camping alone with my children and grandchildren. My concern is safety, I have heard this town has a high crime rate. Any tips would be greatly appriciated...
  • most of Tunica campgrounds still closed from 2011 flood.I live next to Shelby Forest Park and it is a nice quite area
  • Tunica Ms. is only 30 min.s from Graceland. Nice parks and great food at the casinos...
  • Amen. Get as far out of Memphis as possible and if visiting Graceland don't get caught in the area after dark. Visited there on business many times over the years and would be happy if I never went back.

I have stayed at the CG that is located directly behind the Heartbreak Hotel. They had a security guard at the entrance 24/7 when I was there. I would not venture out side of the campground on foot after dark but I had no issues while in the park itself. We did go out to eat at a local rib place and had no problems while out. You can walk out the back gate to Graceland and if you have a disabled person with you the campground will take you over in their golf cart is you ask. The other places mentioned may be Ok but if you are only going to Graceland I would recommend this CG. I also went down to Beale Street while there and other than the homeless sleeping we had no problems there either.

X-2 DW is usually paranoid about "rough areas", but we were quite comfortable staying behind the Heartbreak Hotel. In fact, we stayed a 3rd day , checked out Beale St and local musicians and the "ducks". Very handy to Graceland. We checked out the surrounding area the 1st day and did not find anything to be concerned about. No gangbangers, no assault carrying red-necks, etc - nothing that concerned us, or we would have left in in hurry!
  • Tom Sawyer park is the place, be sure and tell then that we (RV Net) recommended them.
  • Not a place I would want to be at, espcially after dark...

Check out Tom Sawyer RV Park as someone else suggested...

  • Never stayed there but the area looks a bit rough to me. No other opinions than what I saw..No issues when I was in the area visiting Graceland.
  • Go to the Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park CG instead. Much nicer. Much safer. If you are going to Graceland, it will be about a 45 minute drive.

An alternative, closer to downtown is the Tom Sawyer CG across the Mississippi River in West Memphis, AR. Not nearly as nice as Shelby Forest though.

A third option is the Agricenter International CG. It is about the same distance from Graceland as Tom Sawyer, but is not as nice a CG.

The Graceland area is definitely an "avoid after dark" area.
