Mount Rushmore camping
We are wanting to head up to Mount Rushmore next week for spring break. Looking for advice on where to camp. We don't need hookups, would like to be near water/fishing.

- Wow. Thanks for all the advice! Now.....what should we do while we are there? What are the must sees?
- Horse Thief lake federal campground. About 2 miles away on the road to Rushmore. Has a lake. No electric. About $22. There is also a private campground with a similar name -- farther away
- This summer we are staying at Big Pine Campground in Custer SD. They have received very good reviews and have extremely clean bathrooms.
- We did the Black Hills on our honeymoon in 1976. We stayed at a campground in Rapid City because it is central to all the major attractions and day tripped from there with the tow vehicle. It worked very well, but that was close to 40 years ago now.
- Koa is open for $25 a niightm' just electic. Stayed there on tuesday.
- For previous posts on this subject search this Forum for Rushmore either in the RV Parks section or overall. I say take the bus tour.
- My immediate suggestion would be Horsethief Campground but it may not be open yet.
