Need Good Advice

New to all this.

Driving a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo.

Work in NY city but planning to keep a mobile home for primary living in a NJ campground.

I'm 6' 4", 240lbs. So I would need something towable to accommodate my height for inside dwelling.

Need something with a decent kitchen since I do bodybuilding and cook and store meals in bulk, so I'm guessing I'll need a spacious refrigerator.

Want to buy used for lower cost.

Need something I can tow so I may use my jeep as daily driver.

Want something that can't be easily broken into.

Don't want a mobile home too large to be a pain to tow around.

Would like something that doesn't require a lot of maintenance, if that's possible, but something that isn't going to fall apart but also last a long time.

My budget is up to $10,000.00, but anything less expensive is always better and preferred, of course.

Thanks for your time, RV experts reading this.

I'm looking forward to any responses.

P.S. Only me living in it, no pets.

  • When the keys for my Pace Arrow got lost at the dealer they just got another set from the drawer. They were all the same. Easy to break into on any RV is just part of the deal. Maybe you should just consider a true mobil home and not a TT and then have it moved when you need to move or sell and buy in a different location.
  • Go to a large rv show where they have lots of used units. Go into them and see what you like and what you don't. This will give you an idea of what is out there. I would stay small since it is you and the tow vehicle (tv) isn't geared for towing a lot.
  • Bro.
This is not going to be easy.
    #1 You are big
#2 These fridges are small. You are going to need a 2nd fridge.
#3 Your truck is old and small (sorry man)

    Perhaps a 16' Hybrid?

All these rigs are easy to break in to :(
  • have you been inside of ANY RV? I am not being a SMART A??????

its small .. and everything inside is smaller...

spend an afternoon at a RV dealer.. look around a couple of them..

and except for large .. big dollar ones.. the beds are very SHORT... I am 6..3. and bald.... my head touches the roof with tennis shoes on.

tiny fig, and freezer. and a 6 gallon hot water heater. like 3 minute shower.
  • Good answer. However, I think the OP means TT when he says mobile home. Just guessing, of course. ;>)

  • That's a tough laundry list to cover. I think the biggest problem is going to be the tow vehicle. I believe the max tow rating for the V6 was 5000lbs and 6500lbs for the V8. You won't be towing anywhere near a mobile home with that.

You'll be rubbing your head in a lot of regular TTs. Try to find a model with the rounded barrel type roof for more headroom. Common to newer trailers. You'll find the mattresses in TTs shorter than standard too.

Not many TTs have a lot of counter space either. You'll want to invest in a sink cover for more space. Finding a large fridge in a small TT will be even harder.

Don't think this exists in an RV. They're all easy to break into. Heck, most even use the same key for the storage compartments.

Don't want a mobile home too large to be a pain to tow around.
Again, your tow vehicle will limit you to a smaller TT

Do you plan on living in this year round? That poses a whole list of problems for your location. Most RVs are not considered 4 season capable. They are not insulated well enough and you'll have to winterize the plumbing.
