Me, I bought a used Honda 2k about 7 years ago now. Looks like it got drug down the road on a rope, but it had less than 100hrs on it and for the $500 I spent, it's still worth $400-500 today AND it will also last as long as I choose to keep it. We routinely get close to 1000hrs on those at work. Haven't seen one with more than 1000, but they get used, abused, run out of oil, dropped, sit in the rain, etc. Unless they plug from old gas, they generally work.
Personal use where one presumably takes much better care, red or blue will literally be the last one you need to buy.
If budget is a big concern, buy used, ftw. Plenty of gently used ones for a little more than a chinese model and a little less than a new red or blue one.

For what use?

You going to run the A/C all day? 2 minutes to run the microwave? Early morning coffee? Charge the battery? Watch tv? Charge your phone/tablet/laptop? Electric heater?

Where are you camping?

Secluded spot in the desert? Campground near others? Festival?

How many nights will you be camped without utility power?

Gas is more widely available than propane. Also, you'll use more propane than gas because it contains less energy, propane costs more, and your generator will make fewer watts with propane vs gas.
