OP, the real question is AC or no AC off the genny.
If you have a small AC 13kbtu or less, you can likely get it to run off of a "good" 2000W generator. If you have a 15k or more, then you're looking at twins or a 3000W genny.
Brand? Idkk about the bargain ones with recongnizable names, like Generac and Briggs, but Honda and Yami are both the top of the line for reliable power and overall reliability. Champion and Predator seem to get mostly good reviews, but they're still cheap construction and china bomb parts compared to the red and blue. This is not debateable. However they work fine for occasional use I'm sure.
Value? That can be looked at a couple ways.
Me, I bought a used Honda 2k about 7 years ago now. Looks like it got drug down the road on a rope, but it had less than 100hrs on it and for the $500 I spent, it's still worth $400-500 today AND it will also last as long as I choose to keep it. We routinely get close to 1000hrs on those at work. Haven't seen one with more than 1000, but they get used, abused, run out of oil, dropped, sit in the rain, etc. Unless they plug from old gas, they generally work.
Personal use where one presumably takes much better care, red or blue will literally be the last one you need to buy.
If budget is a big concern, buy used, ftw. Plenty of gently used ones for a little more than a chinese model and a little less than a new red or blue one.
Direct quote from the Honda website.
"Honda produces approximately 46 thousand compact gasoline generators ranging in capacity from 0.9 – 12 kVA in Japan, China, France, India, Thailand and US and supplies them to North America, Europe and various other countries around the world."
Hmmmm - China bomb parts. :B - dedmistonModeratorNot sure if y'all noticed, but this is an old thread from last Feb. A new spammer joined in and bumped the thread, and then folks took the bait.

And some morning very soon your generator will gone, gone, gone.
I thank you for your service, but your incessant complaining about generators is honestly really childish, not to mention, not germane to the conversation. - CharlesinGAExplorer

Great way to Pi$$ off anyone within a quarter mile of you, and you will grow tired of hearing it too. No open frame generators for RV'ers, be a good neighbor, get an inverter unit.

Several "Knock off" brands such as Harbor Freight Predator, Champion and others have mixed reviews. but mostly good.
I personally have never seen a negative report on either the Predator or a Champion.
The new "dark horse" in the race is Westinghouse. They are the only one making a lightweight 2600 (peak) watt generator. Great if you are running a bigger A/C unit.
it won't run a 15k AC. I had to add the ezstart to run the AC - For what use?
You going to run the A/C all day? 2 minutes to run the microwave? Early morning coffee? Charge the battery? Watch tv? Charge your phone/tablet/laptop? Electric heater?
Where are you camping?
Secluded spot in the desert? Campground near others? Festival?
How many nights will you be camped without utility power? - drsteveExplorer

I have a fiend who bought a champion dual fuel 3400 and loves it. I am thinking of getting rid of my 2 honda 2000s and getting one. the idea of propane versus fuel is a big plus, no fuel hassles.
Gas is more widely available than propane. Also, you'll use more propane than gas because it contains less energy, propane costs more, and your generator will make fewer watts with propane vs gas. - GulfcoastExplorerHere's what I bought and I am so HAPPY with it.
It was factory refurbished and it looks brand new.
