I grew up in N Maine where we were all taught to leave the keys in the car, your house was unlocked and a stranger was just a friend you hadn't met before. After 30+ years of being all over the globe, I'm afraid some of my small town perspectives have changed. The approval would probably still be granted dependant of course on the situation, but the guard would naturally be up. It's a sad state of affairs in which society is heading.
