1 down from Monterey to Big Sur is a good 2 lane road. Some don't care for the road further south especially south bound. Suggest Earth Google and decide for yourself.
The main state campground was closed a month ago due to fires so check before arriving.
68 from 101 to Monterey is also a good 2 lane road. Take the Monterey exit south of Salinas.
