Able to tow 8900 and our TT is 6366 lbs.
Remember that the trailer weight is a dry weight. Not including any add ons put on the trailer or anything you place on the trailer. Nor does it include any liquids inside it which weigh 8.69 lbs/gallon. Any liquids in the fresh, black and gray tanks will add up some weight. I would make sure to be nearly empty when towing. You also have to include the extra people in your vehicle. Check your vehicle manual and see what it says about the weight. It usually includes one person and a half of tank of gas. Start adding another half tank of gas, wife, kids and cargo....well it starts to add up. Going on a long trip like that, you are probably more than likely will take more stuff with you and acquire more stuff while out and about. Just be mindful of that.
Other than that, my recommendation is to plan your fuel stops. We normally start to look for a place after half a tank. Unless we know specifically where we are at and going and what is there. In those fords (we used to have an F250), the second half of tank seems to go faster than the first (by looking at the guage). Don't even try to go off of a "DTE" (due to empty) reading. Your Expedition will not be calculated corrected due to you driving it without towing. I would guestimate a lower mpg towing the trailer. Better safe than sorry. When picking out a place to get gas, you will want a large place. We like the Flying J's with the RV pumps. They often give you plenty of room.
