Hmmm, I would probably not try to tow that big trailer with an Expedition, especially over the Rockies. We did it with a much smaller trailer and an Expy and I think we got 6mpg at some points. But that is the least of your worries. Your trailer is pretty heavy and doesn't even count the weight of your passengers and their equipment, plus food, bedding, toys, etc.
I don't want to rain on your parade because I can tell you are super excited about your trip. But I would be remiss if I didn't share with you that we flipped our Expy. We had upgraded from our small trailer (the one we took cross-country with no problems) and bought a large 29-30ft Springdale with a big slide. It was a great trailer, just not with the Expedition. One day while we were towing on I-16, on flat terrain, on a beautiful dry day, the trailer got away from us and we flipped the whole thing 3 times. We were lucky nobody was killed.
I wish I had done more research before we tried to tow that trailer with a 1/2 ton. It was just too much trailer, not enough truck. I shudder to think how badly this could have gone if this had happened in the Rocky Mountains. Please, please, if you don't want to listen to my story(and you certainly don't have to), please listen to others who are more experienced than you.
