general rule of thumb is buy the tow vehicle for the next TT. Any of the newer diesels from any of the big 3 were good and had their fair share of isssues. if you can, get a 7.3 turbo ford or a 6.6 duramax chevy. reason leaving out the dodge is both of the ones i had were full of transmission woes.
prepare for more getting dirty upkeep, they require more with fuel filters, up to 3 gallons of motor oil, antigel if you are in a cold climate(stay away from veg based diesel if you can and stick to #2. bio clouds at 40* and nothing sucks much more than having the fuel filter wax and truck plays the "i don't wanna go" bs on you).
but for durability and all out oomph, they are superb torque monster pulling rigs.
