Brace yourself. Strong opinions on diesel vs gas on this forum, pros and cons for both but it boils down to personal preference.
Diesel used to be cheaper but now is pricier in most parts of the US. I've seen it cheaper in Atlantic Canada. Mileage will be better, engine will last longer, servicing may be more expensive.
There are quite a few smaller class C diesels built on the Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis. Winnebago View and its twin the Itasca Navion, Leisure Travel Unity, Coach House Platinum II, to name just a view.
