50 amp RV's are 120/240 volt. 2 hot legs, 120v from hot leg to neutral. 240v from hot leg to hot leg. This is no different than the electrical service feeding your home. You can use a hot leg and the neutral to supply power to any appliance that requires a 120v supply. You use both hot legs to supply power to anything that requires a 240v supply such as an electric stove or clothes dryer.
Most RV's only use the hot legs independently as they have no appliances that require 240v. I said most, there are some that do have 240v clothes dryers, etc.
