Multiple answers depending on what kind of outlet you are plugging into
15/20 amp (Standard wall outlet) you need a 12 Ga Extension cord, you can get these at Home Depot or Lowes but I like the ones at Sears or K-Mart with the push button on the outlet.. You will also need an adapter or two.. They make what I call a "Puck" type adapter that is 15 amp to 50 amp, the cord will lock onto it (The 15 amps side) and you can plug in to it.. YOu won't be able to run much, the battery charger, fridge and Televisions is about it, do not even run a vacuum cleaner for at least 2 or 3 hours.
If you have a 30 amp RV outlet..(NOTE: Many 30 amp outlets will DAMAGE an RV, so you must be SURE it is an RV outlet, 125 volts, Single breaker (not double ganged) and 120 volts flat blade to flat blade) you can use a 30 amp extension cord with a proper adapter This will let you run one Air COR the microwave OR the water heater.. and you can forget the "2-3 hours" part on the vacuum.
If you have a proper 4 wire 50 amp RV outlet.. then the 50 amp Extension cord is best. No adapters needed.
NOTE in any case you should obtain an adapter (50-30 amp) so you can plug in on a 30 amp site.. and I also recommend either a 50-15 (Which I have) or a 30-15 (Daisy chain them) for .. Places like where I'm parked now. (only 15 amp service)
Soon I won't be parked any more.. We lifted the new engine in yesterday.
