We, too, avoided interstates. Absolutely hate them. With our 40' motorhome we had no issues with secondary roads.
Trees in campgrounds - park outside the campground or at the office and scout your site first. If there's a tree issue tell the office so they can take care of it. I wouldn't advise cutting big branches on your own, especially if it's a private park. That's private property. If they won't deal with it then leave. If it's a public park, there should be a host there to help you. We rarely encountered a tree issue - small branches, yes. they grow fast. :) In a public park we would snip the small ones but never a large one.
We found that if the campground has big sites then big rigs have driven through it with no problems.
If you're traveling with someone, have them get out and observe all the branches as you're parking. Sometimes we've seen the wife just sitting in the RV/truck as the husband parks on his own. Never could understand that one.
Fuel - Drive on the top half of your tank and top off when you see a good station. If driving in farm country, the stations will be big for the farmer's vehicles.
You'll get the hang of it! Have fun.
thanks so much for the encouraging words!
simple, but had not considered moving some cutters into the basement, great idea.
i know that the more time we spend on the road the nervousness will decrease. I'm telling you the first trip we took was to a GC we'd never been to and i had no idea what i was going to find for my first "real" backing job. i did know that we were meeting up 8-10 people who were all ready going to be at the GC. new trailer...... let's watch her back that thing up! i was a nervous wreck thinking it would be this tiny narrow little spot. you can imagine what i was picturing! pleased to report plenty of room, circled around so it was a driver side back and had no problems. won't mention the last time when it was pouring down rain, blind side backing and 3 cars behind me waiting to get by. end of story, guy came up and asked if i needed help, "yes." want me to do it, "yes."
again - thanks for the encouragement!
