My fivers have been a little longer than 32', but this is my take on the whole interstate vs. secondary routes.
I use Pilot and Flying J truck lanes to fill up when attached to my fiver. I am a big fan of purchasing fuel at places that sell tons of it, not some Mom and Pop station on a back road that only refills their underground tanks twice a year. If you use interstate truck stops to get fuel I think you will find the professional drivers to be generally friendly. Plus I almost always back in with the general truck parking area to either get food from my fiver or eat inside the truck stop.
If you do travel some secondary roads be sure to get a Trucker's Atlas. It will give you all the designated roadways and any low structures. I also run a RV GPS that warns me of height restrictions. Of course you still have to watch those low hanging limbs in campgrounds.
