Non twist lock 30 amp inlet

I want to upgrade to 30 amps in my old trailer. I ordered a 30 amp inlet which I didn't realize was a twist locking type. My adapters and my extension cord will not mate up with that. How do I go find a 30 amp inlet that is just prongs with not twist lock prong?
  • Hi,

I would put on a short umbilical cord with a 30 amp male end. No need for the expense and scarcity of the twist lock.

  • I remember they used to exist. They were simply the male end instead of the female and looked just like a normal plug. They were black plastic and had a shiny metal spring loaded door.
I replaced one on an old TC I had 25 years ago. They were abandoned by the manufacturers many years ago but some NOS inventory existed for many years. They got rather expensive and I think they're nearly extinct now.
If I were you I would cut the end off the cord and just install a modern twist lock.
  • Replace your cord end with a standard 30amp twist lock connector. I made up a power distribution cord for a construction job several years ago using them.
  • The needed female end is available from West Marine or Tweety's.
  • Hard wire your power cord OR change out female end of plug to a 30A twist lock female
  • hmm not sure I've ever seen one, i've only ever seen twist lock or an attached umbilical cord. Maybe just use the twistlock and convert your cord... or cut the end of the cord off and wire it direct.

Personally I prefer the twistlock(Marinco), I just converted mine from attached cable to twist lock.
