When I brought this up a while back, one person explained it as being so the OP couldn't edit his post. I'm not sure I agree with or understand that. I think it's just a quirky habit.
I also notice that it's quite common for an OP to misspell a word in the post title, but then spell it correctly in the body, like here. And OP doesn't notice or correct the post title. In the same thread, the first responder quoted his entire post. I call that a "double whammy."
