You see this several times a day - when someone is the first person to post a reply to a question, why do a number of people use the QUOTE function to reply with instead of using the REPLY TO TOPIC fu...

Seriously though, I will sometimes quote a single line, or a single phrase of the OP, because I want to respond to that particular statement. In which case I might well do so as the first responder.
I completely agree with this answer. It isn't necessary to quote an entire post (especially the photos), only quote that part you are responding to. But some posters get annoyed that someone only took a part of their quote and "quoted them out of context."
You just can't win, sometimes.
