Since they're the first responder, there can't be any question or doubt as to what they're responding to. By using the QUOTE function, it just clutters up the posting by taking up unnecessary space with the quote.

Not too surprising, since over half the responders thus far could not discern that you were only asking about the FIRST responder. :S

No guarantee that '1st responder' will actually be the 1ST RESPONDER.

I have read a post..no other responses and by time I have actually posted my response there could be one or two other posts.

I have even seen where my post shows up and then come back to it later and posts that were NOT there before magically show up

SO that is one other reason I might quote OPs post
