P trap
Does anyone put a makeshift P trap in your sewer hose to prevent sewer smells from traveling back up into your tanks/rv?

Always! But not for sewer smells. I do it to prevent sewer flies!
I don't leave the black tank valve open, just the gray tank. When ready to dump the black tank, I take the p trap out of the sewer house, dump the black tank, put the p trap back in the sewer hose, and dump the gray tank. (I close the gray tank valve a day or so before dumping the black tank so I will have "flush" water.)
