Traveling with Desert tortoise - parking long term for the summer. Need to provide him with "enclosure" as close to free range as possible. Anyone ever done such a thing?
  • Well now…I've heard of traveling with dogs, birds, cats, ferrets, fish…never a Desert tortoise!
  • Do they dig?

My son's African Horned Torts dig out of anything less than two feet of bury. (They weigh 40 pounds each and are the size of an upside down sink.)

Question - isn't the desert tortoise a protected species? If so - how come you are traveling with one?

    Info

They can be kept as pets. Interesting as I had two green iguanas many years ago.

That site says "..it is possible..."! So does the OP have the necessary permits from the various agencies or not??

  • I know nothing at all about tortoises but would something like a dog exercise pen be sturdy enough? Found this one on ebay, looks sturdier than most that I've seen...

I think we're going to need pictures! :)
