I think extending the slides is BAD idea. They will be very hard to see at night and stand a good chance of being hit by a truck pulling in beside you.
Besides why would you want to spend the night in a noisy, smelly truck stop. Truckers don't always have a choice but you do.
Don't be cheap, find a campground.
