I think the draw to Walmart/Flyin J is they are typically right off the interstate, and you aren't driving 20 min to a campground each way. Pull off the highway, go to sleep, get up and go, no wasted driving. Also it's easier when tired to pull into a big lit parking lot than to try to back into a narrow dark campsite at midnight waking up everyone.
This is the reason I use them. Has nothing to do with money, just time.
