DW and I recently went to the Grand Canyon. I agree it is about the money. We want a safe and nice place to stay overnight while traveling. I have trouble sleeping in a Walmart parking lot and at rest areas where traffic is coming and going all hours of the night. That is why we joined Passport America. We had a couple of great experiences on this trip. The best was in Starkville, MS where we paid $15 and received two bags of vegetables from the owner before heading out in the morning. $13 for a nice stop in Eureka, KS. Also stops in Mobile, AL, Beaumont & Fort Stockton, TX, one near Painted Desert, AZ and in Cortez, CO. I believe the one in Cortez was the most expensive at $20 for one night. We also found that a lot of the counties out in the mid west have fairgrounds that have camping. We stayed in Hill City, KS for $10 a night.
Of course I have not problems with anyone that wants to stay at Walmart, Rest Stops, or Flying J's. We love Kansas rest areas that have a separate area for RVs staying overnight
