T-stat controls ON/OFF of furnace based on 'set point'....if inside temp is reaching set point of t-stat and not shutting off....bad t-stat
HI limit switch.....safety device to shutdown furnace IF furnace chamber gets to hot (typically 190*F)
Blocked air flow (discharge and or return) will trip furnace due to overheating (combustion chamber) or due to lack of proper air/fuel ratio. Usually a problem with trying to start furnace
Excessive heat at one register/area......duct work loose/torn blowing hot air directly at register/area
