Two answers:
In days of old when folks were bold a common converter was the Magnetek 6300
I would recommend leaving one of those plugged in for months on end, they have a reputation for boiling batteries dry.
On the other hand I have a Progressive Dynamics 9180 with wizard (About as far from the FIrst one as you can get, this is a "Top band" 3-stage plus converter, (NOTE many in that top band) and plugged in is best.
