Pop-up to TT. What do I need?

This weekend I will be picking up my new TT. I have 6 years of PUP experience under my belt, so I am pretty comfortable with everything.

However, what parts and pieces should I need, or does anyone recommend when stepping into a TT.

I think the only thing I really need is a sewer hose (which dealer said he would give me a used one no charge). I already have all the fresh water hoses and regulators, extension cords, wheel chocks (just the plastic jobbers), and all the typical camping stuff like lights and bags, etc.

I don't see any levels on the camper so I am sure I will get some of those. I used wood planks to level the camper which I would imagine work just as well on the dual axle TT. I am purchasing a Blue Ox Sway control/WD hitch. Probably going to pick up the Bal-X chocks to supplement my plastic ground chocks.

What might I be missing that is good to invest in?

I "assume" you mean not to run it off a standard 15 amp outlet/ext. cord?
    bumpy
  • This model comes with both a tongue jack and battery disconnect.

My PUP had a black and fresh water tank so I am familiar with them and what I need for them.
  • If the new TT doesn't already have one, get a "battery disconnect switch"

    Blue Seas is my recommendation.

Oh yea, The best 2- mods I ever made to my TT was the electric tongue jack & a volt meter mounted inside the TT.
  • Get a new hose (so you can deal with your own poop not someone elses)
I suggest a kit with 2 and an elbow. (elbow goes into the waste hole at dump site)

I like the clear hose part that connects at your dump port, and the hose plugs into it. Lets you know if the water is clearish, or an easy way to tell when the tanks are empty.

I have never really gotten the cleaner feature on the clear extension to work, however I have internal tank cleaners.

You should check the ELECTRIC part of the water heater (make sure it has water in it) for operation. Often the element gets burned out and its an 'oh crap' moment after you leave the lot when it doesnt work.

Make sure the awning opens and closes correctly. My first TT, the awning did not open. The dealer actually tried to charge me to fix it by adding the cost to the purchase order. I walked out and they changed their minds.

I like having a 30a to 120 plug adapter AND and 50a to 30a 'dog bone' I have been to a few campgrounds that the 30a is broken, or tripps at about 14 amps. The 50a usually always work.

Try not to haul with water in the fresh tank.. its a lot of weight you dont need while towing and 99.99% of camp grounds have a place to get fresh water.

WATER FILTER! Walmart has the twin pack of in line hose water filters with a bendable end for like $30.

STERELIZE the fresh water tank with bleach. Look up the directions online or on this site.

Your tank fill indicators rarely every show anything remotely correct. DO NOT rely on them. esp. for fresh water. The black tanks, you can shine a flashlight and see inside from the toilet (usually.)

NEVER run your AC off a 120 plug.

Buy Tank treatments. These are drop in packs or liquid that help decompose the toilet paper/poop and keep the smell down. You will regret not using these.

Also.. empty the black tanks first, then grey tanks, (cleans the hose)
  • You don't need much more than you had with the popup. But with all the extra storage you will have, you will add things at each trip. Enjoy!
  • You'll want a good sewer hose and a 90 degree elbow. I also recommend a Flush King or similar attachment to allow back flushing of the black tank with clear portion to make it easier to tell when things are clean.

Electric tongue jack will greatly help hitching and unhitching without having to manually crank to get the W/D bars on and off!

A case of beer to get a neighbor to help set up sometimes helps. That usually also requires a nice chair to sit in while you wait for them to finish.
  • I wasn't keen on a used hose, but it's good as a backup, right? I was planning on getting a new one with those feet I see that angle it downstream.

I think I would pass on the "USED" hose. :h
  • The dealer will give you his cheapest and poorest quality sewer hose.
Trade up for a RhinoFlex sewer hose.

    Congrats on your new rig...enjoy.
  • Sounds like you got it covered. Be sure your battery is fully charged. Levelers do not usually come on a TT. Perhaps you mean "stabilizers" which are not to be used for leveling. Use your boards like always, just have enough for two wheels instead of one. Oh, and spring for a NEW sewer hose. They are cheap and, well, just get a new one.
