Prescriptions while on the road?

I never travel for more than 2 weeks at a time but ran into an issue where my script ran out while I was away. Insurance rules wouldn't allow them to refill more than a few days before my current supply ran out. CVS is our main pharmacy so we had it filled at the nearest one. Our insurance is CVS Caremark and they encourage 90 day refills as it's actually less costly overall to do so. Less paperwork, less bottles to fill, etc.

I just get a years worth at a time when I am back in the area my primary physician is located. That obviously wont work for some folks (med types, insurance variations, etc) but it may be worth talking to your Dr and insurance company about.

do they ship the drugs directly from the pharmacy in Canada or is this one of those firms that have a Canadian address but the drugs get mailed to you directly from overseas with a questionable 'background"?

There are many options depending on the medication.
Some states. Some medications. Mail order not an option from what I am told (Only a short list of such medications) I've never had that happen,.

For some time I used Wal*Mart as they are all over the land and they will transfer the script store to store for you... Wallgreens uses a single national database so a script at one store is on line at all stores. Note sure of CVS or Rite Aid but suspect one of the above.

I'm now using a Mail order PHarmacy... the State picks the pharmacy as part of my Retiree insurance plan. the one they used to use I paid the full co-pay even if the straight up cost of the med was less (WHY I went to Wal*mart for some meds) The one They have now I pay the lower of the co-pay or actual cost of med.

Paying 20 dollar copay for a 5 dollar med just did not seem right to either me or the State of Michigan.

Just make sure that you do the legwork before you go.
Our local pharmacy ensured us that it would be no problem and that they would fax ourinfo to whatever Wal Mart we needed.

Napa California. Six hours sitting in the parking lot waiting for the processes to coordinate.
Security even chalked my tires to make sure I wasn't spending the nite.

Once the Napa Wal Mart got everthing entered properly we had no problem.

Be aware of the fact that getting a prescription refill in Canada is trickier, even if you stop at a Canadian Walmart.

My doc gave me a printout of my prescription from GoodRX, it was accepted at the pharmacy and saved me money, because my insurance didn’t want to pay for it.

We prefer Walgreens over Walmart. Easier ingress/egress, nicer employees.
Also United Healthcares preferred supplier.

There are several answers.. I use a mail order pharmacy (The one recommended by my Insurance) for the cost savings.. Since they can usually get me my meds in just a few days I will order either just before or just after checking into a membership park for 2 weeks.. Occasional issues (like ship to my BILLING address 800 miles away) happen but hey... I try to place the order in time (That one I did not).

Walgreens. CVS and Rite-Aid are nation wide so is Wal*mart Pharmacy A couple of Insurance Pharmacies ago they charged me the full co-pay even if full price was less (Can you say RIP OFF) so I'd get the lower priced stuff at Wal*Mart.. But I do not like supporting the welfare kings (The Walton family) by shopping at their store. The current mail order charges me the lesser of co-pay or regular price. next page:

Some drugs/prescriptions can only be filled locally.. (I do not have any of those so i can't tell you what they are) but for those you will need to talk to a pharmacist and hopefully one that belongs to a nationwide chain.
