Disclaimer: I am a dealer.
Some of you guys are talking through your nose. You have no idea what you speak of.

The only time that a dealer will ever actually give existing title to the buyer is in the event of an out of state transaction. A dealer can only process title paperwork for the state in which he is a bonded dealer. If the buyer is from out of state, it is up to the buyer to take the title to a DMV in his own state and obtain title in his/her name. In these cases, the dealer will properly endorse the title over to the new buyer and then mail same to the buyer once all funds are safely in the bank.
That makes sense. Every time I've left with the title it has been an out of state transaction. I had to pay sales tax and apply for the title in my home state.
Ok, I'm really confused now. I'm the original poster here. I am indeed purchasing this coach from out of state. So I should definitely get the title in hand when I leave? Also, I'm paying via a cashiers check drawn on Bank of America. He can verify funds.
After reading a the post here, I'm seriously confused! I think I've already pissed off the seller with all these questions, but personally I want that title. The seller, since he also is from ebay can delay title pending my feedback, or who knows what else.
The bill of sale is also alarming. He sent me a copy after the fact. It's more of a legal agreement explaining that basically I can't seek legal action or restitution for anything. It nullifies any and all said promises implied in the eBay add. It states that if I were to seek legal action against the seller, I am responsible for paying his legal costs. It's absurd.
So about half you folks say it's ok to leave without the title and the other half say its not.
I d never trust advice of a stranger on the Internet,as you dont know who it is!
Best advice you can get is to ask your local DMV or a lawyer..
I only have experience in buying vehicles in Alberta,Manitoba,Ontario and NS and in each and every case I got the Title aka pink slip from the seller right when paying for it.
Then I go to DMV and have it registered, its that simple,,
perhaps in some states is different,I dont know..but its good to use caution as its YOUR money you may lose!
Without title you dont own the vehicle,so you canot sell it,anyone saying otherwise cannot be trusted, imho
good luck
