even when buying a new car you need to wait for the title to be mailed to you in your name. it`s normal business practice. I don`t hear anything that would make me think otherwise. it sounds like you caught him off guard asking for the title, when I`m guessing the other 99% of his customers have never questioned it.

Even if you paid cash for a new or used car you are going to have to wait for the title.
