My hubby and I are newbies. We have been researching what we want for numerous months now. I have spent countless hours and days trying to assure that we get this right the first time- as our budget restraints don't allow us to screw this up. We have heard of, and spoken to countless out of state "discount" dealers. We have located a place who claims to be able to sell us the unit we want for 10k less than we can purchase in our southern state. He will also deliver right to our front door. I have been trying to locate complaints and/or good reviews for any of these places...but seem to find very little info. Does anyone out there have any good or bad experiences or places they can recommend? We are nervous about blindly sending off a massive chunk of money with little or no guarantee as to what will show up. We have heard of Wagners, Terrytown, Lakeshore, Holmans, etc. Any advice, help, words of wisdom would be so appreciated.

I have dealt with Holmans many times and never had a bad experience. Their sales and service are second to none IMHO.

I've bought plenty of vehicles out of town / out of state to get better deals. If it has been anything other than brand new I have gone and eyeballed it before I handed over money (we would agree on price, etc beforehand).How far away is the RV, and what is it?

first, if you want to get info on buying from RVW quickly, using the search feature of any RV forum, will bring up a massive number of posts and threads on RVW.i bought from an out-of-state dealer and would've bought from RVW if they had been any closer than the one i bought from.seeing that you're in Florida, i echo checking RVDirect before any other similar dealer. RVDirect and RVW have been the leaders in this kind of RV pricing and the fact that they have an Orlando location, makes them a no-brainer to me.

Do you have someone in your area that will perform service on it? Will it be under warranty, and if so, who will do th warrantrty work if needed?

I was thinking of littlecampers.com, which while associated with an RV dealer in Mississippi, seems to operate independently. For RVW and RVDirect, I would see if a local dealer will meet that price. Can't hurt to try.

My next RV will almost definitely get bought from RV Wholesalers (RVW). I went "local" this past time (second closest dealer that carries Sabres). They are 150 miles away and have been a big dud when it has come to service.

You could try taking the quote to a local dealer and see if they match it or come close. I purchased my Camplite from RVWorld in Lakeland, FL after they agreed to meet the price quote I showed them from the Internet. I used the cheapest quote I could find, and while it was borderline, they did agree to it. The quote I showed them was from a full service dealer in Georgia so it would be comparing apples to apples, but the price wasn't far off from the wholesalers.

Good experience with RVDirect. We went and picked it up - made an enjoyable trip out of it. Like GoPackGo did, we stayed a day or two to check it out before returning. Also, some folks are concerned about warranty service - we never had any problem getting factory warranty service from a local dealer (out of warranty now). Saved lots of money. I would use them again.

We have checked lots of dealers. The unit we have picked out, Cross Roads, Sunset reserve isn't available at all of them. Which limited us to Terrytown, Wagners, Paul Sherry. We have looked online for reviews- we find very little. There are several complaints with Wagners regarding service after the sale. We will definitely not be getting service from them, they are too far from us to even consider. And honestly, we have heard similar complaints from friends about other facilities. We were hoping someone had done business with one of these places and could give us some sense of security/hope about sending off large quantities of hard earned money to them. Haha

We so appreciate folks giving us all their recommendations. Nothing beats legitimate consumer feedback!!!

I bought from Holman's earlier this year and it was a good experience. They ordered the unit I wanted and when it came in, I drove up and picked it up. Stayed on site for a couple days for PDI and then drove back home with it. I got 35-40% off MSRP.

Can't reply to specific recommendations but will point out you are not buying wholesale, you are buying retail. Although dealers advertise that they are selling wholesale it is false. You would need a dealer's license to buy wholesale.

I considered RV Direct and RV Wholesalers for our recently ordered Windjammer trailer. Both have good reputations. If I recall, RV Direct required that you use their financing as that is a source of profit for them since the RVs are pretty slim deals. What happened in our case is a local dealer basically matched their deal so we ordered locally. At least use both of them to get quotes and then make up your mind. Another thing to look at with them is the shipping cost; we live on the west cost so shipping was about $4-$5,000 if I recall. They still had the best price even with the shipping cost. Since you're in Florida, the shipping would be a lot less and you can check to see if they have a location in Florida that would make the deal even better. Hard to beat their prices.
