In much of it you will find more rock than sand. A lot of the areas will have varying amounts and sizes of rock. Some areas are very consistent in the texture and some areas may have golf ball or baseball size rock yet a just a little way from that it's smaller gravel that is usually pretty tight.
In some areas as your foot traffic increases the dirt may loosen and get dusty. We did a ton of wiring repair on a friends TT and wore a path around his rig so he packed up and moved about 50 feet to get on fresh ground. When I thought of the desert I always thought sand yet most of the sand I have found around the Q is in the washes where you aren't traveling or parking. You'll probably like it out there and maybe we can get 2oldman to buy us all lunch and refreshments. :)
