This came up the other day and now I'm questioning myself.When reserving at a CG and they ask the length of your TT what size do you give?The lenght of TT with or without the tongue (A frame coupler)?Funny had disagreement with a fellow camper a couple of weeks ago I say no, he says yes. Who is right?

My way is to give the total size including the tongue and back bumper and then add a foot.

Well, when we're asked by an RV park we give the legal length (34 feet)....I would believe THEY would know there is tongue, etc. When reserving state parks, etc, I look at the length of the site and determine if our rig and our truck will fit in :) :)

Depends on the cg.National park online reservations, for example, specify that they want the total length of all vehicles that will be there, and you cannot be one inch longer. So I round up.In a phone call to a private park, I usually just say 'class B'. (And I explain that it's really just a minivan with bed, fridge, and toilet, in case they have a problem with that but only one park ever has.) Length does not generally come up. If I had a bigger rig I think I would ask them about their sites, what would be good for me. And tell them how good/bad I was at backing it :).

In general, your safer to include the length to the tongue when checking out the site sizes.

since to date I have never paid for my site per foot... I give the total length including everything... this would usually assure me that the site will be large enough..

I can understand your issue, you're paying the same price to get the same service so you should get a decent site! First come first serviced.

I have a small hybrid and I have noticed several times now that I get the cr@ppy sites at some CGs because my 20ft camper will fit where anything bigger probably wont.

I'm sick of getting the unlevel, grassless sites next to the dumpsters, so this year I'm going to lie about my trailer size.

My 5er's wheels are a good 8' from the rear of the coach, meaning my back end can hang that far into a grass area. Now, if the park insists on no overhanging, then the site length is fairly accurate.

Total length. And with one park I've visited twice I added 5 feet for the second visit. The first time the site they assigned us was just long enough for the TT and the TV if the TV was parked 90-degrees from the TT (and close enough the trailer tongue was a tripping hazard while going around the vehicle)

Ok Ok let's debate, lol's

Seriously a lot of CG website asks for lenght of TT and if you have a side out. Lots opinions on the subject, but starting to agree that it's better to include the tongue, it's better to be safe than too small. So measure twice and cut once, hmmm not in this case the wife will kill me!!! hahahaha

you reserve a site so you will have a place to park. If the rig is just a bit too long for the site because you didn't give the total length, you don't have a place to park. I guess that is your choice

In that case...

What's the worse case scenario with each length:

1. You use the length including tongue - the site you get fits exactly that length and nothing more.

2. You use the length without tongue - the site you get fits your box perfectly and your tongue is hanging into the road.

Hmmm, #1 is the safer risk.
