I have always been a strong recommender of the first trip being short and fairly local to learn the rig as well as your own needs and preferences. This applies not only to the RV life but boating as well.
I would also advise you to not make any rushed electrical modifications before your big trip. I would strongly suggest a overnight or weekend nearby in advance of your long drive, even if it has to be in the driveway.
Other than that... Safe trip, and I'm jealous.... I been trying to get out there for my whole 43 years on this earth
