questions,,,newbie,,,,confused ,,engine issues ?

Ok we are thinking of testing the waters,,,I would like to buy a used Winnebago 27 ft or so,I like the soild roofs on the Winnebags :)
So there is a 1995 with 60k miles,,,its in mint shap,,,but im told,,,by a dealer ( yea I know ) if the intake manifold is leaking it wont pass inspection and will cost 5k to fix...also if the fridge doesn't work,,,1500.00....then some engines have issues with spark plugs stck in the heads,,,
Now is there anyway to check or look for a certain model that we wont get burned on,,,,,they want 12k for the one I was looking at

1995 Winnebago class A Itaska,,,,27 ft,,,,guess im gunshy
  • My '05 is not a Winnebago, nor is it a class A, and it's on a Chevy chassis.

Anyway, it is an '05 and has had very little in chassis problems, a couple of oxygen sensor problems and a bolt holding the exhaust broke and I replaced that. It has about 50K miles on it.

Anyway, not all older motorhomes are falling apart. Good ones are out there. All you have to do is find one. :h

so you don't think ths one is a good deal ??? What about exhaust manifold issues ??

common problem on the V10. You can actually look underneath and see the bolt snapped off. Causes exhaust to come into the cab area. Been there done that.
  • don't know if the exhaust manifold leaks and don't know about the fridge,,,I was just saying I was told these things are big bucks,,,and the exhaust would stop it from passing inspection ??
  • There are horror stories and there are stories like mine where my '99 F250 never popped a plug. It all boils down to proper maintenance and proper diligence when purchasing. I wouldn't shun a rig because it had 60K if it was properly maintained. A rig with a leaky intake manifold and broken fridge doesn't meet that standard. I bought my 2008 2 years ago with 40K miles on it and haven't had 1 issue in that time. Of course, I paid a lot more than $12K for it.
  • hum well my buddy has a 2005 Ford F250 with the 5.4 and he has the sparkplug issue,,,the dealer broke 2 tools trying to get the #2 out,,,still cant get it,,
  • That price seems way too high. I'd keep looking. Have any RV that you are looking at checked out thoroughly by a mechanic you trust. I hope you find a great RV at a great price. They are out there.

    Miles

  • Keep on looking.

Spark plugs are not an issue until 1999 and were mostly solved by 2001 and all solved by 2005 on the Ford V-10.
