Quick inverter question

We haven't been camping in so long I forgot ... when hooked up to shore power, inverter on or off. And what exactly does it do again?

Are you sure you have a true inverter to convert 12v to 110v?
  • old topic.....but I need to learn.....can I run an inverter off the chasis alternator while driving to power the TV/satellite reciever/ and dish....so we can watch tv while driving without the concern of draining the coach batteries?
  • Wow, thanks, RoyB for the diagram. I'll have to print this out and study it.

This is a typical 30AMP Wiring configuration on what runs what in a 30AMP RV system setup.

Not sure what you are asking concerning an INVERTER. The Inverter is an optional item usually added by the user which runs from your batteries and provides 120VAC to run a few 120VAC Appliance items when NOT connected to the Shore Power pedestal or Generator.

Using an INVERTER requires a larger battery bank as it takes alot of DC CURRENT from the batteries to operate.

Study the block diagram to refresh yourself on what things are called in the modern RV's.

  • Inverter off. Convertor on. Inverter converts 12 volt DC to 110AC. Convertor converts 110 volt AC to 12 volt DC. Everything in the coach, except the outlets, runs on 12 volt DC.
