Renting an RV for an extended time

I am considering buying an RV and taking a year off for my 10 year old son and me to go travel and see all the beauty the US has to offer.

I would really like to rent an RV first just to make sure we like it but they are so expensive to rent. Does anyone have any recommendation on where I could potentially rent a class C for a reasonable weekly or monthly rate?
  • Do summers. Ten year old needs to be in school...real school.

What is " reasonable " to you ?
  • Renting from the Major Companies can be very pricey, you could look into RV Share some give discounts for long term rentals.

Or as others have said just buy a used RV and sell it later,a good value in that market is to buy a Former Rental

Good luck in your Quest and welcome to the Forum,

Cruise America rents and sell. Renting and finding out you do not like it is cheaper than buying and then trying to sell a couple weeks later:
  • You can buy a used RV and resell it. You may loose a $1000 or you may get your full price back depending on the market where you are at. Around here if you buy in winter and sell in summer you will not lose much, if any.
  • Just a suggestion.... you may try tent camping a week-end or two. If after the 2nd week-end outing you enjoy camping ... then you'll absolutely LOVE getting a CLASS C! Guarantee it! And any camping supplies you pick-up for the tent, will easily just transfer to the new Class C. Even the tent itself can be used for an outside storage at the camp site, leave it set up so you can travel around in the "C" to sight see to mark your campsite is occupied when you are gone.
  • Not sure how reasonable they are but seeing you're in Orlando you may want to take a drive down to LazyDay's and ask. I know they do some rentals out of there.
