I was fortunate to be able to retire from the corporate life at age 50. I still did some part time work to stay busy and pay the bills. At age 57, out of the blue I had a massive heart attack that ruptured my heart. I am still dealing with the after effects 4 years later. My point is this. If you have a desire, it doesn't affect other loved ones, and you have figured out how to support yourself financially, I say go for it. There was a woman who posted here a month or so ago with a similar question but she had a young son and other issues on the table. My advice to her was quite different.
The major problem you will have (as others point out) is health care. Everything else can be worked out. Good luck on your future endeavor. I envy you.
