Generator with central air. We travel as a family so it’s not uncommon for my son to be watching TV (either in motion Direct TV or a DVD) , my wife making something in the microwave, using her laptop, etc and we usually travel in the summer so we need the central air. Can’t think of any time we don’t run the gen on the road. That’s what it’s there for.
  • We have the coach cool from running the A/C (if it's hot out) and then use just the dash air while driving. We haven't had to run both yet. There are probably areas of the county where you would need both to stay comfortable.
  • Most times when underway you are sitting in the front seats and dash should do fine . Ten minutes before stopping we start the generator to cool the house .

I have heard it argued both ways.. But the facts are as follows

The dash air is designed to cool ONLY the cockpit area, when it comes to cooling an eitire class __ Motor home it's not going to do the job

It is cheaper to run the dash air.
  • Not enough difference to worry about, but if it gets too warm with just the Dash air, start the Genny and run the roof AC. Whatever works.
  • We run the dash A/C almost 100% of the time, but also crank up the generator and both roof A/C's when the coach needs it.
  • When the outside temperature is not very hot the dash ac will be fine. But when it is boiling outside you will want to run both and you won't care if it is more expensive. You can also factor in what it will take to cool the coach down when you stop for the night. It will cool down a lot faster if it is cool already.

And on edit, why did you post twice? Now you have ruined my day.
  • There are a lot of variables so the answer is yes, maybe or no. :)

If we start out cool dash will normally do it. The rest do not like a cold RV and as long as I have cool air in the face I am cool.

Get in it at 4PM in full sun then every cooling device is on MAX.
