Hydro Canada went low voltage on us twice. An EMS is a good investment. Progressive is the best.
To clarify, there's no such thing as "Hydro Canada" ... rather, each province and territory is serviced by it's own utility system, here in Ontario known as Hydro One (previously Ontario Hydro), in Quebec it's Hydro-Quebec, in Nova Scotia it's Nova Scotia Power, etc, etc. Each of these power generation systems distributes power to local utilities which in turn distribute power throughout local communities. While wide scale power anomalies such as brownouts can occur it's most often a local utility issue, or in this case even a campground issue, rather than a problem with the power generating system itself, meaning power here is no more likely to be problematic than anywhere in the US.
That said, I typically see my Progressive Industries EMS disconnect at least 3 or 4 times each season for one reason or another and would also highly recommend this product for every RV owner, regardless of where they may camp as the cost of not protecting the rig's electrical system can set one back many times the cost of an EMS unit. Better safe than sorry. :)
And yes, cable runs to the campsite power post can be awfully long, here in the Ontario Provincial Park system 100' not being unusual at all. I carry 140' total and do use all of it from time to time. ;) When traveling in the US we most often can reach the power post with just the trailer's 25' cable, occasionally I might have to add another 25' but in all the years we've been camping I've never had to use any more than 50' total.
