RV Convection oven

In my new "RV" it came with a missing microwave/oven and I am looking to replace it. I am not sure how a microwave/convection oven operates?

Can I bake cookies in it? like will it get to 350-400 degrees? can I use this for 2 hours off of the power inverter while driving? or is it one of the things that is only for the generator to power?

I can find these on amazon for around 200$ they are all about 1000w. and say microwave/convection oven. Im not sure what other specs I should be looking for.

  • This truck came with a me2012 power inverter. Its rated for 2000w. Is it a reasonable load to hang 1200-1400w load for any length of time on an inverter? It seems like a lot of heat. Is it a normal rv practice to load a system like this with that much capacity?

PS, I Dont really care about the alternator, it has twin 200A that cost almost nothing to overhaul. The batteries are a bit of a concern. I have 4 big interstates lead acid not deep cycle.my main concern is blowing up the inverter.

  • Yes, they bake just fine. A feature mine has that I like - not sure if all have it - is a mixed mode. The convection cooks at 325, but it also throws in microwave power - either 10% or 30% power. I use it for meats, frozen lasagne and such to speed up cooking and still provide browning unlike all micro.

I don't run mine on the inverter. It sounds like it is struggling, so maybe the amperage is not there. I have read of others burning theirs out that way. Probably depends on specs of oven vs inverter.
  • Convection is like a regular oven, heating for baking. Mine has also a button to shut off the carrousel so if baking with a rectangular dish it will not rotate and get stuck because oven is wider than deep. I have baked at 425 degrees. Not sure of working off inverter. You'll have to check the wattage draw of the particular microwave against the ability of your alternator to keep up with the draw.
I have used the generator to run air conditioners driving. Would be same for oven.
