- 1BryNelsonExplorerI'm intereated also in this project.
- -Gramps-ExplorerIt depends on the model number. We just replaced ours last week. There were two large bolts that went thru the bottom of the cabinet above it and there were also two bolts that were accessible from the bottom of the microwave once the panel was removed. Those bolts were quite long and attached the microwave to the mounting bracket.
When you replace it make sure you check how the door is hinged..some microwaves have zero clearance doors..they are hinged a couple inches in from the left...others have to be clear of the cabinet opening by an inch or two or the door will not open. Also front vent microwaves are a bit harder to come by then the top vent ones. Top vent microwaves have a couple of special needs. If the top of your cabinet opening is more than 13 inches deep you will have to have a 1.75 to two inch spacer behind the new unit so the vent clears the bottom of the cabinet and the door can open. - hanzfranz60ExplorerGiven the age of your unit I can't say that it will be like some that are a little newer, but most of these units are usually screwed from the top cabinet down into the micro/conv to hold the front, and it is held in back by a metal plate that the rear of the unit hangs on. So, if you can find some fasters in the front and top of the unit it should just come down in the front and then you lift it off of the rear plate.
Mine had some screw behind the top venting assembly and three large bolts screwed down from the wood base of the cabinet above.
Hope that helps! - bmwbobExplorerI have all four of the bolts out, and the four long screws Newmar shot down into the cabinet from the top. The unit feels loose in the bracket now.
Now,it appears that the unit is is hung up on the metal "chimney" that goes up from the top of the oven.
I cannot see how to proceed from this point.
Bob - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIWe replaced ours with an exact fit from Home Depot - GE Profile Convection Oven. Good luck!
- dbblsExplorerAfter I removed the to bolts in the cabinet above, I lifted the oven off the bracket that was fastened to the wall at the back.
- -Gramps-ExplorerMake sure the power cord is not hanging up inside the cabinet.
- DSDP_DonExplorerbmwbob....I removed the microwave from my 2014 Dutch Star and found the bolts and screws you did....plus two more. They drove two drywall screws, from underneath through the back panel, the panel that hooks to the back wall support.
Get under the microwave and look up toward the back wall for two more screws. - bmwbobExplorerI had forgotten to mention this oven is a Sharp Carousel Smart and Easy Covection Oven.
I found the installation manual. This is a TOP vented rig, going to an outside vent.
The instructions indicate that once the bracket is mounted to the wall, the oven itself is mounted to the bracket by sitting its rear lower edge into the channel on the lower edge of the bracket, then pivoting the oven up to level, tightening the two bolts that come in from the bottom above the grease filters, and installing the two bolts that come down through the shelf above the unit.
So, since I have removed all of the fasteners coming down from above, as well as the two bottom bolts, it appears that the oven should just tip forward out of the bracket.
The problem SEEMS to be that the rectangular vent " chimney" is engaging the vent stack on top of the oven, and won't allow it to tip forward.
With casual inspection, it is not obvious how I should proceed to separate the oven from the chimney.
Any ideas? Am I not seeing something critical?
I did not see any additional screws angling up from the bottom into the mounting bracket, and the oven seems to be loose in the bracket, as I can move it a small amount with little effort.
Bob - -Gramps-ExplorerWill the vent inside the cabinet move up and disengage from the top of the microwave? According to the install manual for other Sharp brands the vertical exhaust assembly on the top of the microwave simply slides into place under the vertical opening in the bottom of the cabinet. There are no screws to hold it. I suppose some extra ones could have been added thru the bottom of the cabinet but I think that is unlikely.
I could not swing my dead Sharp microwave off the bracket until I released the power cord. It was pulled very tight thru the hole in the bottom of the cabinet.
